Allan has lived in Amberley since 2010 and at the time of the quake was the Emergency Management Officer for the Hurunui District Council, managing the delivery of rural fire services and Civil Defence for the district.  In his interview he describes the first hours at the Emergency Operations Centre in Amberley, which included responding to the tsunami warning and evacuation.  He goes on to describe the early weeks of coordination of all recovery services, and the challenges of responding to a natural disaster in a large rural area.  Allan Grigg was interviewed on 17 July 2017.
