Topic: The Hurunui Libraries Quilts

Topic type:

How it started

To mark the establishment of the new District Library in Amberley, the eight Hurunui Libraries agreed to action an idea of the Friends of the Hurunui Libraries and create a quilt depicting each of their areas as they are today. This project was ably co-ordinated by Maria Evans.

Over 50 women got together and committed their ides to fabric, spending many many hours making the amazing quilts you will see before you.

The eight pieces of the quilt reflect a sense of both local and district identity and it is planned to display them in all the libraries in the district.

"It has brought together many talented women of various backgrounds and a widespread district in a venture that is going to be a portrait of the present available for future generation"
