Topic: The Hurunui Quilt - Amberley

Topic type:

The Amberley quilt was made by Jan Chisnall and Julia O'Sullivan

The Amberley quilt was made using traditional piecing. Amberley lies between the sea and Mount Grey so we used this as our inspiration.

We began at the sea, with its fish and shells, to the seashore with its grasses and birds. Next onto the village and the surrounding farmland and finally to Mount Grey. The mountain is a feature of the quilt because it looms large in Amberley. When you return to Amberley after being away, when Mount Grey appears you know you are home.

Amberley is the window to the hurunui so we included an open window on the quilt. Once the window is open you can see all the activities that are available to you, these have been placed on the window frame.
